Spotsylvania, VA—After leading a police officer on a chase, a man suffered internal injuries and multiple broken bones after he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed.
On September 15 at approximately 6:40 PM, Lieutenant Steve Clem of the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office responded to assist another deputy on Jefferson Davis Highway. Lt. Clem was heading southwest, in the area of Massaponax Church Road.
As Lt. Clem approached the scene, a motorcycle appeared to pull to the side of the roadway. Suddenly, the motorcycle rapidly accelerated away from Lt. Clem. By his estimation, Lt. Clem believes the motorcycle was traveling in excess of 100 miles per hour, and continued southbound on Jefferson Davis Highway.
Just past Massaponax High School, Lt. Clem observed the motorcycle driver lose control and strike the guardrail. The driver was thrown over the guardrail, breaking several bones and incurring internal injury.
The driver, identified as 25-year-old Marcos Suniga-Raudales of Alexandria, is currently being treated at Mary Washington Hospital. He faces numerous charges, including: Felony eluding of a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, no valid operators license, no motorcycle license endorsement, Failure to register a vehicle with the department of motor vehicles, and driving without valid insurance.
