HANOVER, VA- The man charged in a shooting that left a teenage girl seriously injured after she was shot in the head is speaking out, proclaiming his innocence after he was released on bond Tuesday afternoon.
Marcus Lamont Moore, 19, of the 6100 block of Staples Mill Road, faces felony charges of aggravated malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
"I hope they get the real shooter and realize it wasn't me," Marcus Moore told 8News. "I would never do anything that I'm being accused of."
Moore was released on a $20,000 secured bond Tuesday. A judge ordered he would be monitored by an ankle bracelet.
Police said the victim, a 17-year-old girl, was leaving a party at a home on Hilbingdon Road when the shooting happened just after 1:00 a.m. September 3.
The victim was struck by a bullet that passed through the rear window of the car she was riding in. The teen has been released from the hospital and has begun physical therapy.
Moore's mother spoke to 8News about the incident, saying her son is innocent.
"It was a case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Everyone can testify that Marcus is not a criminal. He's not that kind of kid," said Raines.
8News spoke with neighbors, who said the owners of the house where the shooting happened were out of town, and a party was thrown by home owner's son, a senior at Mills Godwin High School.
"We don't want this in our neighborhood, and we understand things happen, bad things happen in good neighborhoods," said neighbor Jan Closter.
"It's a quiet, lovely neighborhood, family neighborhood, you don't hear of this happening around here," said Closter.
Moore has a preliminary court hearing set for December 21, 2012.
