RICHMOND, VA—The number of cases of the West Nile Virus in Virginia has risen by more than 30 percent since 2011.
Thirteen cases of the West Nile Virus have been reported in Virginia, to date this year, the Virginia Department of Health reports.
Six cases were reported in the northwest region, four in the northern region, two in the central region and one in the southwest region.
There were nine reported cases of the West Nile Virus in Virginia in 2011. For 2006 to 2010, the number of reported cases ranged from one to five. One person has died from the disease, to date this year. There was one death in 2011 and one death in 2010; from 2006 to 2009, there were no deaths.
