Public Hearing Set For Dominion Solar Programs

Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND, VA. (AP) - Virginia regulators are holding a public hearing on Dominion Virginia Power's plans to increase the use of solar power.

The State Corporation Commission is scheduled to conduct a hearing on the Richmond-based energy provider's proposals Wednesday.

Dominion's solar-power program consists of two proposals aimed at promoting alternative power and energy conservation.

One would permit the company to build and operate up to 30 megawatts of company-owned solar generation facilities at various locations at an estimated cost of $111 million. The utility plans to lease commercial rooftops to install panels that would generate enough electricity to power about 6,000 homes during peak daylight hours.

Another proposal would allow Dominion to purchase up to 3 megawatts of electricity from customer-owned solar installations.

Dominion is Virginia's largest utility with about 2.3 million customers.
