HENRICO, VA—A student at Ward Elementary School suffered minor burns after being shocked at the school Friday.

The student, a 10-year-old girl, was shocked when a paper clip was placed in an electrical wall socket, Henrico County Schools Deputy Superintendent Patrick Kinlaw confirmed.

The girl suffered minor burns and was taken to VCU Medical Center. Her condition is unknown.

Henrico County Fire officials were called to the school at 11:26 a.m. Initial calls indicated the girl was shocked by a pencil sharper, but school officials said a pencil sharpener was not involved in the incident.
