American Flag Stolen From Virginia War Memorial

Posted: Updated:

Richmond, VA—During Sunday's early morning hours, thieves stole the American flag that normally waves above the Virginia War Memorial, located at  621 S. Belvidere Street.

Jeb Hockman, Director of Marketing of the Virginia War Memorial, says they believe someone stole the flag by cutting the rope that attached it to the pole.

The crime is believed to have taken place between 3:30 and 5:00 AM Sunday morning. Hockman says the Memorial will try to have another flag flying by the end of the say on Sunday.

The Virginia War Memorial was created to honor Virginia veterans of World War II. Construction was completed in 1955, and the Memorial was dedicated February 29, 1956.
