Richmond, VA—A group of African American women took steps to a healthier lifestyle at the "Black Girls Run" event in north Richmond.
About 150 women participated in the walk at the Northside YMCA. The event aims to bring obesity awareness to local minorities.
"Black Girls Run" Spokesperson JayEll Vaughn hopes the event will inspire African American women in Richmond to get on the right track to healthy living.
"It's a two mile run or walk. We welcome all fitness levels, sizes, all colors, it doesn't matter," Vaughn said of the event. "It is just about being active and adopting fitness in a regular routine."
The next "Black Girls Run" will be held at the First Baptist Church in Richmond on October 14.
