RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - The FBI's Richmond Division has a new leader.

Mazanec most recently served as deputy assistant director of public affairs at FBI headquarters in Washington. He has held a variety of positions with the FBI, many of them dealing with counterterrorism. He also has taught graduate-level national security courses at the National Defense University and helped establish the FBI School of Intelligence at Quantico.
Mazanec received a bachelor's degree from Liberty University, a law degree from the College of William and Mary, and a master's in national security strategy from the National War College.
