RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Gov. Bob McDonnell is proclaiming 2013 as the "Year of the Virginia Historic Home" as the state marks the bicentennial of the Executive Mansion.
The announcement was made by the mansion's director Tuesday at the Preservation Virginia annual conference in Leesburg.
The designation is aimed at recognizing the importance of the many historic homes around Virginia.
Virginia has more than 100 historic homes, many of which are open to the public as museums and historic sites. Officials say they offer cultural, historical, and architectural information.
As part of the effort, state officials are joining with the Virginia Association of Museums to launch a website for Virginia historic homes tourism in October.
