Chesterfield, VA-- A man who was trapped in earth up to his waist after a trench collapse has been rescued and is being evaluated.
It happened Wednesday afternoon at First Baptist Church Centralia on Kingsdale Road in Chesterfield . The church is located at 2920 Kingsdale Road in Chesterfield. Construction work was going on in the front of the church when a worker became trapped after a trench collapsed.
Fire and rescue officials said the victim is doing well, although he was complaining of being uncomfortable. Rescue crews have put boards around the man, to keep the trench from collapsing on more people.
Eyewitness Gary Waller, also a worker at the church construction site, tried to dig out the trapped worker so he wouldn't suffocate. He then called 911, and continued talking with the victim the whole time as they were waiting for rescue to arrive.
