Henrico, VA—A rabid skunk attacked a dog in Sandston on Sunday, confirm Henrico Police Animal Protection officers.
Officers were called to Armstead Circle after reports of a skunk attacking a dog. When they arrived, they found the skunk dead. The body was sent to the State Lab for testing.
On Tuesday, the test results confirmed that the skunk had rabies.
The dog which was attacked by the skunk had a current rabies vaccination, but will be quarantined for 45 days as a precaution. No other animal or human exposures to the skunk were reported.
Henrico Police Animal Protection reminds citizens to keep their pets' rabies vaccinations current to ensure the safety of their pets and community. Please report abnormal wildlife behavior to the Henrico Police Non-Emergency Communications Center at (804) 501-5000.
