CHESTERFIELD, VA—A plane experiencing mechanical problems with its landing gear landed safely at Chesterfield County Airport on Thursday.
There were two people on board the small passenger plane, when it experienced mechanical issues just after 11:00 a.m. Thursday, officials said.
The plane circled the airport several times before landing safely around 12:20 p.m. at the Chesterfield County Airport. Officials said the airport was chosen for the landing because it was the safest place to land.
The plane, headed from Charlotte, N.C., experienced mechanical problems when the landing gear became stuck. The pilot was able to manually move the landing gear into position, allowing the plane to land.
Chesterfield emergency crews were staged at the Chesterfield Airport, prepared for a possible emergency landing. Officials said it was possible the plane would have to make a belly landing.
