The family of a 24-year-old pregnant woman stabbed to death in Henrico are pushing for the death penalty, but prosecutors say there just isn't enough evidence.
In March 2011, Susana Cisneros was found dead from stab wounds in a parking lot along Broad Street. She was nine months pregnant at the time.
Her boyfriend, Gregory Nelson, is charged with first degree murder and is currently behind bars awaiting trial.
Earlier this year, a second charge of fetal homicide was dropped because prosecutors said they didn't have enough evidence that Nelson specifically attempted to kill the unborn child. Evidence showed none of Susana's stab wounds were to the abdomen.
"She was two weeks from giving birth and they are not considering the child at all," said Jhennifer Cisneros, the victim's sister. "That is ridiculous to me, how do you not consider someone who was fully developed as a person."
Nelson is scheduled to go to trial in December, but a hearing is set for October 25, when Nelson could enter a guilty plea. Stay with 8News for updates.
