Several incidents involving armed suspects on and around VCU's Monroe Park campus have forced increased security in the area.

Three attempted robberies, and armed robbery and a gun brandishing incident were all reported Monday evening.

The attempted robberies took place at Grace and Foushee Streets (8 p.m.), Laurel and Cary Streets (8:30 p.m.), and Cary and belvidere Streets (just after 8:30 p.m.).

The armed robbery also happened at Laurel and Cary Streets, and the brandishing of a firearm happened at First and Grace Streets, around 8 p.m.

In the robbery cases, police said a black male standing about 5 foot 8, wearing a dark grey hooded sweatshirt demanded money while displaying a firearm. He also wore pajama pants with chili peppers on them. VCU officials said they believe the same suspect is possibly to blame for all of the reported crimes.

VCU officials released as statement warning about additional crimes in the area, saying, "It can be assumed that conditions continue to exist that may pose a threat to members and guests of the community. VCU Police are adding increased patrols in the area."

No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
