RICHMOND, VA—Richmond City Public Schools will open an on-campus daycare at one of the district's high schools Tuesday.
The child care center will open at Armstrong High School. The center was first announced in February during the Richmond "State of the Schools Address."
City officials said the daycare center was created in an effort to keep teen parents in school.
"It's purpose is to engage our young teenagers who happen to be parents to come back to school or stay in school," Dr. Yvonne Brandon, Richmond School Superintendent said.
The city also announced other plans to reduce the student-drop out rate, including plans to convert Richmond Community High School to a charter school. The city also planes to expand a violence-free zone program from George Wythe High School to Armstrong High School.
