Richmond, VA—After attempting to carry a .25 caliber handgun in his carry-on bag, a Disputanta man was cited at Richmond International Airport Monday.

When the unidentified man passed through a checkpoint metal detector, TSA officers detected the gun in his carry-on bag.

The TSA contacted the Capital Regional Airport Commission Police, who confiscated the weapon. This incident bore no impact on airport operations.

The man was issued two summonses, and was allowed to fly on to his destination in Atlanta.

The TSA wishes to remind all airline passengers that weapons are not permitted in carry-on baggage. Some weapons are permitted to be transported in checked baggage; passengers should check proper airline procedures ,as well as checking into local laws before doing so.

For more information about permissible items on airplanes, visit the Transportation Security Administration's website here.

In 2011, over 1300 firearms were confiscated by the TSA at airports in 2011.
