VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - Two men face charges after they ran through a Virginia Beach movie theater wearing clown masks.

Virginia Beach police spokesman Jimmy Barnes tells WAVY-TV that Blake Newton and Jamar K. Washington Jr. are charged with wearing masks in public, a felony, and misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

Washington also is charged with possession of marijuana and two weapons counts. He says he had a knife.

The incident occurred Monday evening at Regal Columbus Theaters.

Washington tells WAVY that he didn't intend to scare or hurt anyone. Newton says the pair "just messed up."

Police say men's prank was insensitive. It occurred just months after a gunman killed 12 people and injured 58 others at a theater in Colorado.
