PRINCE GEORGE, VA—Recovery efforts to locate a 12-year-old child who fell into a Prince George County quarry Tuesday afternoon and did not resurface resumed Wednesday morning after crews halted the search Tuesday night.

Search crews resumed recovery efforts Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at the Vulcan Materials quarry pit, after a 12-year-old boy fell into the quarry Tuesday afternoon.

Police said three children—two 13-year-olds and a 12-year-old—were playing around the quarry, when the 12-year-old boy, identified as Clacy Sullivan, fell into the quarry.

The other two children attempted to rescue the boy, but could not reach him, police said. The children then ran home to call for help.

Recovery efforts resumed Wednesday at Vulcan Materials quarry pit, located at 4120 Puddle Duck Road. Dive and search teams are using boats with SONAR technology to try and locate the boy.

Work at the quarry has been temporally suspended, and workers are helping police in the search effort.

The boy's mother and family are at the scene, and the boy's mother and aunt were treated in an ambulance Wednesday morning.

A vigil for the missing boy will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday night. The vigil will be held at the entrance to the quarry on Ruddledock Road.

State Police, fire officials and dive crews responded to the scene at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. The quarry pit is 16 feet deep and 42 degrees at its base, according to officials. There is also mud and water at the base of the pit.

8News placed a call to the business asking for details; Vulcan Materials Vice President David Donaldson told us the company was cooperating with Prince George Police as they spearheaded the search.
