SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. (AP) - Spotsylvania County authorities say a man who was killed when hit by a train has been identified.
Sheriff's Capt. Mike Harvey said late Friday that the Virginia Medical Examiner's Office has identified the victim as 74-year-old Charles Hollowell of Spotsylvania.
Harvey says it appears Hollowell was crossing at a bend in the tracks Wednesday afternoon and was unaware of the approaching train. The engineer was able to sound his horn and apply the train's emergency brakes before hitting Hollowell.
The investigation is continuing.
