3 Found Guilty In Hanover Teen's Murder

Posted: Updated:

Hanover, VA--Three teenage men have been found guilty of first degree murder and other charges in the January death of Brett Wells.

Davon Byars, Xavia Highsmith and Kevin Drayton were all charged with first degree murder, and Wells was found shot to death in his home.

The motive for the crime was said to have been robbery: the prosecution argued that the teens planned to steal $1300 of marijuana from Wells. When the robbery went awry, they say Highsmith shot Wells in the chest.

The teens' defense aimed to prove Wells was shot in self defense, but ultimately failed.

This is a developing story…stay with 8News for updates.
