RICHMOND, VA. (AP) - President Abraham Lincoln famously walked the streets of the smoldering city of Richmond on April 4, 1865, as the capital of the Confederacy fell to Union forces.
Now the city and the Richmond National Battlefield Park are teaming up to let visitors walk in Lincoln's footsteps as the Civil War came to a close. The Nov. 4 walking tour is also timed ahead of the release of Steven Spielberg's much-anticipated film "Lincoln," which was filmed extensively in Richmond and the Petersburg area.
The walking tour will be led by Park Ranger Mark Gorman. Organizers say he has researched Lincoln's visit extensively and uncovered many unknown details about the president's time in the city.
The 4-hour tour will begin at 10 a.m. at the city's restored Main Street Station.
