HENRICO, VA—A Henrico County mother faces felony charges after police say she left her two-year-old unattended in a car for hours while she made an appearance inside a Henrico County court room.
Chaka Candase Campbell, 29, of the 2500 block of Lynhaven Avenue, Richmond, was charged with one count of felony child neglect.
Police responded to a parking lot in the 4300 block of E. Parham Road just before 4:00 p.m. Wednesday for a call about a child left unattended in a car.
When officers arrived, they found a two-year-old boy in side the car. Police said the child had been left alone for several hours.
The child's mother, Campbell, was found inside the jail. Police said Campbell left the child in the car while making a 1:30 p.m. court appearance at the county jail.
The child was not injured and was released into the custody of a family friend, police said.
