Richmond, VA—Paul Keyes, Head Baseball Coach at Virginia Commonwealth University, died Saturday, November 3 after a battle with cancer. He was 50 years old.
Coach Keyes led The Rams through 18 seasons; winning 603 victories during his career, Keyes was The Rams' all-time winningest coach.
Keyes served as an assistant coach from 1985-1991, and returned to VCU as head coach in 1995. Under Keyes leadership, The Rams won nearly sixty percent of its games over the last 15 years. The Rams enjoyed 12 straight winning season from 1996-2007 under Coach Keyes.
36 of Keyes former players have gone on to play professional baseball, six of whom played in the Major Leagues.
Keyes was a native of Virginia Beach. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Trisha and three children, Paul Jr., MacKenzie and Kyle.
