COLONIAL HEIGHTS, VA—Three people were injured after police say a driver stole a medical transport van from outside VCU Medical Center and led officers on a chase, crashing into multiple vehicles.

Police said a medical transport van was stolen around 9 p.m. Sunday from outside VCU Medical Center.

The van was at the hospital picking up a patient, and when the driver of the van got out of the vehicle, the van was stolen, according to the van company.

Around 11:30 p.m., police attempted to stop the Alliance Specialty Transport vehicle because the driver did not have the headlights turned on. When the driver did not stop, police pursued the vehicle.

The chase last approximately five minutes, police said. It began around the 1200 block of Boulevard and ended in the 2000 block, near Temple Avenue.

The van struck two other vehicles and a telephone pole during the pursuit.

Three people were taken to Southside Regional medical Center. The driver of the van was later transferred to VCU Medical Center. The driver's condition was listed as serious, police said.
