Ashland, VA--After a gas line ruptured inside the Howard Johnson Inn and Suites, about 20 of the hotel's guest had to be evacuated from the building Sunday evening.
Shortly before 8:00 PM, emergency officials responded to the Howard Johnson, located at 107 North Carter Road, after construction crew workers damaged a gas line.
A four-inch break in the line forced police and emergency personnel to evacuate guest from the hotel.
Chief Douglas A. Goodman, Jr. told 8News that the line was broken when workers were operating a backhoe. There were no injuries in this incident.
Chief Goodman said it would take approximately 45 minutes to fix the broken line. Hotel guest are being kept at a safe shelter until it is safe to enter the hotel again.
