CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) - Two University of Virginia researchers have received a grant for a study of adolescents' relationships with non-parental adults.
The university announced the $596,466 grant from the William T. Grant Foundation on Monday.
The study by Nancy Deutsch and Valerie Futch will look at the influence of these relationships in adolescents' lives and how such bonds are formed and sustained.
Deustch and Futch plan to follow a group of seventh- to 10th-graders and a group of 10th-graders to new high school graduates during their three-and-a-half year study.
An initial report will be issued at the end of the study's first year. Other reports will be issued throughout the grant period. A final report will be issued in the fall of 2016.
