HENRICO, VA—Students from Tuckahoe Elementary School head back to the classroom Thursday.

A group of nearly 700 students will attend Short Pump Middle School while repairs are being made at Tuckahoe Elementary School following a fire.

A meeting to discuss the transition was held Wednesday. Classes were canceled Monday through Wednesday, ahead of the change.

Officials say the blaze was contained to one classroom at the school, located in the 700 block of Forest Avenue; there were no injuries.

The fire started when a light malfunctioned, and fell onto a couch. The couch caught fire, and the flames spread. Officials say while the fire only burned in one classroom, the school suffered extensive smoke damage.

School officials note that Tuckahoe Elementary School's last fire inspection was last Thursday, November 8.

Short Pump Middle is located at 4701 Pouncey Tract Road, Glen Allen, 23059.
