CHESTERFIELD - A Chesterfield married couple had a history of violent episodes before the husband allegedly stabbed his wife to death late Monday night.

Tony Williams is accused of stabbing and killing his wife Mia Williams at their Brandy Oaks Road home before leading police on a chase, which ended with Williams being struck by a car on Interstate 95.

Neighbors told 8News reporter Nadeen Yanes the couple often argued, and court records backed up their claims.

In 2005, Mia Williams was charged with assaulting Tony, striking him on the head when he threatened to leave and take their son. Mia was convicted but did not serve any jail time.

A year later, Tony was charged with assaulting Mia. According to court documents, Mia had a bite mark on her arm and a swollen lip. Mia told police Tony became angry when she was on the phone with a male friend. Tony was convicted, but in 2008 the charges were dismissed.

Neighbors said the couples two children are staying with family.

Tony Williams remains in the hospital. Charges are pending.
