Profits from Flip2BFit Help to Build Physical Education Programs in Uganda
New York, NY (PRWEB) November 13, 2012
This holiday season, help kids start the New Year off on the right foot through a new and exciting fitness board game that teaches kids about physical activity and nutrition. Introducing Flip2BFit, an interactive board game where kids develop self-esteem, confidence, and leadership skills through stretching, strength building, cardio and yoga activities - no gym or video game needed! In addition to Flip2BFit, the company also offers an exciting game of memory called Bakari, which emphasizes the same physical fitness skills as Flip2BFit but also challenges the mind!
At the age of 12, Flip2BFit Founder Heather Parisi was a national gymnast when she suddenly broke her leg leaving her with a discrepancy in length in her legs. This injury caused her to be teased, bullied, and eventually led to an eating disorder, which she overcame. However, through fitness she was able to find a place to be “normal” as she was still able to participate (and excel) in sporting activities, ultimately becoming a collegiate diver. Her physical challenges coupled with her awareness of the growing obesity problem among children in the U.S., were the drivers to create a fitness game for kids.
The object of Flip2BFit is to travel through the park to meet “Springer” the dinosaur at the playground. To do this, each player is required to perform a yoga pose, stretch, cardio move or strength training exercise. Healthy food choice cards and bad choice food cards are selected during the game which help players advance or move back throughout the game. Bakari offers an exciting memory game for kids.
Flip2BFit is not only about encouraging a healthy lifestyle in the U.S. Twenty five percent of profits from Flip2BFit and Bakari are donated to the company’s partner charity, Fitness for Africa (http://www.fitnessforafrica.org), which provides organized fitness instruction to schools in Uganda. Currently, Flip2BFit is working with the Uganda Ministry of Education and Sports to help incorporate Flip2BFit into the physical education curriculum in schools throughout Uganda in 2013. The program also connects children in the U.S. to children in Uganda through a Pen Pal program.
“Due to my personal life experiences, I have always wanted to encourage children everywhere to partake in physical fitness to help them gain confidence and strength. The challenge has been finding a vehicle that would get kids excited to get off the couch and on their feet,” said Flip2BFit Founder Heather Parisi. “Now, with the creation of Flip2BFit, kids increase fitness levels without even realizing they are working up a sweat. Part of my mission is to also help prevent childhood obesity,” she added.
Flip2BFit has been awarded by the PTPA – Parent Tested Parent Approved and
