Dinwiddie, VA—The elderly woman who wandered away from her home and was missing for several hours was found safe Tuesday evening.
71-year-old Catherine Frazier was located by a tracking team, composed of various search & rescue teams. Ms. Frazier was removed from a wooded area about half a mile from her home, and appeared to be in good condition. Dinwiddie County Fire & EMS crews transported her to Southside Regional Medical Center for an examination.
Ms. Frazier had been seen at 4:30 AM Tuesday morning before her disappearance. She had apparently walked away from her home, located in the 8900 block of Coleman Lake Road.
Family members say it's common for Frazier to go on walks near her home, and that she sometimes visits relatives who live nearby.
Her family was concerned about her safety, citing the cold weather and rain. Frazier's health was also a concern during the search, as she suffers from dementia and requires several medications.
Police from Chesterfield, Dinwiddie and other agencies assisted in the search, as well as Virginia State Police. They had planned to continue the search overnight if necessary, and to use a helicopter with imaging equipment to try and locate Frazier after sundown.
It's possible that Frazier may have asked someone for a ride to a store, say family members.
