"Dancing with the Stars" Recap:  A Salute to the Military and Trio Too!

Tonight the All-Stars and the Pros have two dances to both remember and execute, all the while keeping in mind that this is a double elimination week...talk about pressure! Will their pressure turn out to be our pleasure, or will they go down in flames?  First they will have a ballroom dance to honor our military (love it), and next they will have a Latin trio dance, with either another professional or troupe member, (excellent)!  It is a lot of dancing, so let's get going!

Derek is back this week and he and Shawn are performing a Viennese Waltz.  It is a lovely, graceful dance that is full of emotion.  These two have no problem connection to the audience.  As always her lines are amazing

 Scores: (Carrie Ann-10, Len-9.5, Bruno-10)                          Total—29.5

Shawn, Derek and Mark perform a samba for their trio and it causes problems in the ballroom.  Here is the deal.  As a creative showpiece, it was perfect.  As a Samba, not so much.  Derek and Mark were the centerpiece, and there was very little samba.  I felt bad for Shawn because I know that she trusts both of them and this dance was for them.  Shame on them.  As Len stated, "If you go home tomorrow, blame them, not me."   Ok, that was a little harsh.

  Scores:  (Carrie Ann-10, Len-7, Bruno-9)     Total—26        Overall Total (93.5)  Both Weeks

Apolo and Karina are next, and he has decided that playing it safe is no longer an option.  To prove this, he decides to zip-line into his tango.  Nice!  He must have gained some confidence from this, because he was astounding.  Better that he has been, and "full-on attack" as Len said.

Scores:  (Carrie Ann-10, Len-9.5, Bruno-10)              Total—29.5

Apolo and Karina have chosen Sasha for their jive trio.  Confession: Grease is my all-time favorite, so they had me at the first move. This was an action-packed, slicked-hair, swivel hip kind of dance.  Apolo held his own among the pros, he had a great night.

Scores:  (Carrie Ann-9.5, Len-9.5, Bruno-10)    Total—29    Overall Total (91.5)Both Weeks

Kirstie and Maks had their best dance with a Viennese waltz. She looked lovely, and danced a very beautiful, if not difficult dance.  There is no doubt that Kirstie is working very hard in this competition, and is putting her heart on the floor.

Scores:  (Carrie Ann-9, Len-9, Bruno-9)                     Total—27

Dancing a paso doble Kirstie, Maks and Tristan could not live up to their earlier performance.  Maybe it was the pressure of two dances, whatever it was, you could literally see Kirstie trying to remember the dance.  This led to obvious missteps, and a jumbled routine. All of the judges noted it as well, but, Maks and Tristan make a nice man sandwich, no?

Scores:  (Carrie Ann-8, Len-8, Bruno-8)    Total—24      Overall Total (79)

Kelly and Val took on a Viennese waltz and while the movement flowed nicely and they looked elegant, she once again fell back into that place of not looking like she was enjoying herself.  There was no smiling, no joy, not even a crack of emotion while she dances.  I want to believe that the people who are dancing are doing for the joy, not the trophy.  Too much?

Scores:  (Carrie Ann-9.5, Len-9, Bruno-9.5)   Total—28

Joining Kelly and Val for their jive is Louis.  While there may have been no smiling in her last number, it was abundant in this one, and so was the kissing.  She gave kisses to both partners, and even to Len at the end.  This is what I mean, Kelly, dance and enjoy it!  She smiled, she danced, and she looked great.  The number was more enjoyable because it looked like she wanted to be there, and who wouldn't?!

Scores:  (Carrie Ann-9.5, Len-9.5, Bruno-9.5)    Total—28.5    Overall Total (92.5)

Gilles and Peta are performing a quickstep this week and as always, Gilles wants to do his best.  I hear the "Top Gun" music and I am excited!  This was probably the most steps I have seen in a quickstep, and it was terrific!  Gilles always puts everything he has into every performance and this is no exception.  Len stated this was "no cupcakes and ice cream, it was thunder and lightning!"

Scores:  (Carrie Ann-9.5, Len-10, Bruno-10)  Total—29.5

Picking up Chelsie for their salsa, Gilles and Peta have a great time with this fun, sexy, exciting number.  Gilles really manages to stand out and take control however, and did a ton of dancing.  Somehow, Carrie Ann and Bruno noticed a few mis-steps, Len disagreed.  I loved it.

Scores:  (Carrie Ann-9.5, Len-10, Bruno-9.5) Total—29      Overall Total--(92)  Both Weeks

Emmitt and Cheryl danced a Viennese waltz and while all three judges noted a slight stumble, they also thought it was a classic, smooth dance.  It was, and was also safe.  Safe isn't a good thing on a night when others are zip-lining.  Sorry Emmitt.

  Scores:  (Carrie Ann-9, Len-9.5, Bruno-9.5) Total—28

Picking up Kym sure helped Emmitt and Cheryl with their salsa!  Lots of hip shaking, booty smacking, and twirling around helped pull Emmitt back to the top!  This is his comfort zone and he managed this one with ease, welcome back twinkle toes!

Scores:  (Carrie Ann-10, Len-10, Bruno-10)   Total—30        Overall Total--(92.5)    Both Weeks

Melissa and Tony do a quickstep that is just perfect, in sailor suits and all.  High energy throughout, perfect lines, and smiles that never stop.  These two look like they have been dancing together since childhood.  Every movement is in perfect sync.  Len said, "it was the bees' knees."

Scores:  (Carrie Ann-10, Len-10, Bruno-10)   Total—30

Melissa and Tony pick up Henry for their paso doble and it was so powerful and elegant at the same time! Melissa came out of her shell and took control of this dance, even yelling out in the middle of the dance. I love this couple.  Tony exclaimed, "I am having the time of my life right now!"

Scores:  (Carrie Ann-10, Len-10, Bruno-10)   Total—30        Overall Total—(99)    Both Weeks

Stealing it with two perfect scores were Melissa and Tony, they also had a great week last week and have a 99 out of 100.  They are the couple to beat.  However, it is never a guarantee.  It is a double elimination week, and no one is absolutely safe, so I hope you voted for your favorites!
