(CNN) Kids who regularly attend daycare are more likely to be overweight than those who stay at home with mom and dad.

That's according to a new study from Canadian researchers.

The study found kids between the ages of one and four, who stayed with an extended family member or in a daycare, were more likely to be become obese by the age of 10.

That's compared to children who were cared for at home by the parents.

Researchers have not yet figured out the reason behind the weight difference.

They have said that diet and exercise need to be closely watched if you have a child in daycare.

The study was published in November's Journal of Pediatrics.
