Richmond, VA—The elderly woman accused of killing her husband and mentally-disabled son in April pleaded guilty to first-degree murder today in court.
Estelle Jones, 70, was taken into custody, after police were called to the 11900 block of River Road on April 19.
At the scene, police found 71-year-old Joseph Jones and 51-year-old Perry Jones dead inside the home. Prosecutors said they were shot at different times, with Joseph shot on Wednesday, April 18 and Perry on Thursday, April 19.
Estelle was taken into custody without incident and charged with two counts of first degree murder.
In court on Tuesday afternoon, Jones pleaded guilty to first degree murder in the death of her son, and guilty to second degree murder in the death of her husband. She was also facing firearms charges, but they were all dropped.
Family members said Estelle and Joseph had been married more than 50 years. Their son Perry was born with Down Syndrome. The couple also has two other sons.
"This community is really close, we all love each other, and this is just a shock to all of us," said family member Alice Foster. "The family was home alone at the time, so we don't know what happened, but we're just praying to god that he will take care of the rest of the family."
Jones will be sentenced on February 19. Stay with 8News for updates.
