Mechanicsville, Va - Elizabeth Haynes has a lot of patience. For more than six weeks, the Mechanicsville woman had a Powerball ticket worth $2 million in her possession. On November 20, she presented the ticket to Lottery officials and became Virginia's latest millionaire.
Ms. Haynes matched the first five numbers in the October 3 Powerball drawing. Normally that would win $1 million. However, she spent an extra dollar for Power Play, which doubled her prize to $2 million.
She bought the winning ticket at the 7-Eleven at 8316 Meadowbridge Road in Mechanicsville. The winning numbers were 17-23-36-55-59 and the Powerball number was 10. She used Easy Pick and allowed the computer to randomly select the numbers on her ticket.
She checked the winning numbers a few days after the drawing and discovered she had won big.
"It was really exciting," she said as she claimed her prize. "Once I told my husband it was a lot more exciting!"
Ms. Haynes is the second Virginia Lottery player to win $2 million using Power Play.
