Worker Rescued After 20-Ft. Fall Down Elevator Shaft

Henrico, VA—Police and rescue crews rescued a man who fell twenty feet down an elevator shaft in Henrico Tuesday morning.

The male victim fell down an elevator shaft inside a structure located in the 2200 block of Old Brick Road in Short Pump. 8News has learned that the man was a construction worker, and fell from a latter as he worked in the area behind Whole Foods in the West Broad Village Shopping Center.

The worker was rescued shortly after 2:00 PM. He was conscious and talking with rescuers during the entire ordeal. Initial reports say that he suffered a fractured leg in the accident.

A crane was extended, and lowered the victim to the ground.
