CULPEPER, Va. (AP) - The Culpeper County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a pedestrian who was hit by a deputy's patrol car.
Police tell The Free Lance-Star (http://bit.ly/V5LZ07 ) that the deputy was responding to a medical emergency call when his car hit the woman on U.S. 29. The accident occurred Wednesday night.
Witnesses told the police that the woman was wearing dark clothing and was in the southbound lane.
The patrol car was traveling about 70 miles per hour. Its emergency lights weren't on.
The deputy and the woman haven't been identified.
