HOPEWELL, VA—Nine people arrested in connection with a gang-related shooting in Hopewell that left a teenage boy seriously injured have been released.
The charges were nolle prossed Friday due to a lack of evidence. The shooting victim refused to testify in court.
Nine people, four adults and five juveniles, were arrested early this month in connection with the November 1 shooting that severely injured a 16-year-old boy.
The shooting happened in the 3600 block of Wilmington Avenue. Police said a fight between two groups, including the victim, escalated and ended with shots fired.
As officers investigated, a 16-year-old arrived at John Randolph Medical Center suffering from gunshot wounds.
