UPDATE: Convicted sex offender Jason Akers, wanted by Hanover Sheriffs since December 3, has been captured in Fayetteville, North Carolina. He is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center in Fayetteville pending an arraignment. We'll have more details tonight on 8News at 5 PM.

HANOVER, VA—The Hanover County Sheriff's Office and Virginia State Police are asking for assistance in locating a man they say failed to comply with the requirements of the sex offender registry.

Deputies are attempting to locate Jason L. Akers, 26, who is for one misdemeanor count of contempt of court.

Akers is also wanted by the Virginia State Police for two felony counts of failing to comply with sex offender registry requirements.

According to the Virginia State Police Sex Offender Registry, Akers was convicted of one count of forcible sodomy and one count of rape in 2006.

It is believed that Akers may be armed, so caution should be taken if he is encountered, police said.

Akers is described as approximately 5'10", 180 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes.

He is a former resident of Hanover County and is currently homeless. It is believed that Akers is still in Hanover County or the Metro Richmond area.

Anyone with information regarding Akers' whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Hanover County Sheriff's Office at (804) 365-6140 or the Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000. Citizens can also text Crime Stoppers at 274637 (CRIMES), using the keyword "iTip" followed by their tip. Both Crime Stoppers methods are anonymous.
