HOPEWELL, VA—One man is dead and another man was seriously after a double shooting in Hopewell late Monday night.
Police responded to the Piper Square Apartments off Courthouse Road for reports of a shooting, just after 10:30 p.m. Monday.
When officers arrived, they found one man shot to death on the sidewalk and another man injured.
Morris Flowers, Jr., 46, of Hopewell died at the scene, police said.
Lamonta Ellis, 30, of Spring Grove suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was flown to VCU Medical Center, according to police.
Ellis suffered serious injuries, but was upgraded to stable condition.
Police are searching for two or three males who opened fired on the victims as they were in the breezeway between two apartments. The suspects were dressed in all black and were wearing black masks, police said.
The suspects were seen leaving the scene on foot towards the back gate of Piper Square towards Old Iron Court, police said.
Police said a vehicle was possibly parked just outside the gate on Old Iron Court.
Police said they do not believe the shooting is connected to other crimes. Detectives are in the process of interviewing witnesses and have not established a motive during the preliminary investigation.
