RICHMOND, VA—A Richmond man accused of attacking a Virginia State Police trooper faces attempted capital murder and other charges.

Michael D. White, 31, 1900 block of Kimrod Road, Richmond, was taken into custody after police say he attacked a trooper when the officer tried to intervene in an argument between White and another male.

State Police Sgt. Thomas Molnar says Trooper R. J. Barrett was taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The trooper suffered serious cuts and a possible concussion. He is now recovering at home.

It happened near the intersection of Midlothian Turnpike and German School Road.

White fled the scene on foot after the Tuesday afternoon incident. He was taken into custody approximately two hours later, around 4:20 p.m. in the 100 block of Giant Drive.

The 31-year-old White is charged with attempted capital murder, malicious wounding, resisting arrest, possession of a firearm while a convicted felon, concealed weapon, and possession of a firearm with no serial number.

Dozens of Richmond Police officers and State Police troopers, along with K9 units, were on scene following the incident.

White was arraigned in a Richmond courtroom Wednesday morning. He is being held at the Richmond Jail without bond.
