HENRICO, VA—Henrico County drivers should expect some delays Wednesday morning as maintenance crews continue to repair a ruptured gas line.

Henrico County Division of Fire responded to the intersection of Pemberton Road and Three Chopt Road for a reported gas leak at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday.

Drivers should expect potential delays in the area as maintenance repairs continue. The north and south through lanes are closed and are expected to remain closed until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

When crews arrived, they discovered a gas vapor stream shooting 50 feet in the air from the middle of the roadway on Pemberton.

Fire crews shut down Pemberton and Three Chopt Road and requested city gas respond. Ground vapors were testing extremely high and a small evacuation was ordered. Before the evacuation was complete, city gas arrived and started to work to shut down the gas line.

Pemberton Road remains closed, and will remain closed until repairs can be made to the gas line and roadway.

Three Chopt Road was reopened shortly after City Gas arrived on scene. It took just over an hour and a half for the gas to stop flowing from the roadway.

A large amount of gas was released sparking a flurry of gas smell calls as far away as Gaskins Road. City Gas and VDOT remain on scene to make repairs.
