FERRUM, Va. (AP) - Ferrum College officials have lifted a lockdown that was put in place after students reported two attempted robberies on campus, one of them possibly involving a gun.

Campus police said the lockdown was lifted about 6 a.m. Friday. A college spokeswoman didn't immediately return a message.

The private college in southwest Virginia issued an alert at 10:22 p.m. Thursday after the first attempted robbery was reported near Riddick Hall. Less than an hour later, another robbery was called in on campus and a lockdown was ordered as a precaution.

It marked the second time in three years the campus was placed on lockdown. In December 2010, a student reported a possible gunshot on campus, but police searched all buildings and found no evidence of a threat.
