Dinwiddie County's former chief animal control officer was found not guilty of an embezzlement charge Thursday.
Deborah Broughton had been indicted by a grand jury on one count of embezzlement, the result of an investigating into her actions, county officials said.
During her bench trial, the judge found Broughton not guilty. The charge stemmed from an October incident in which Broughton reportedly sought treatment for a dog.
Broughton was originally suspended without pay, and was later terminated.
