Former VA Sheriff Pleads Guilty To Morals Charges

BEDFORD, Va. (AP) - A former Bedford County sheriff's deputy has received a suspended sentence for morals charges involving a 16-year-old girl.

Under a plea deal, Ernest Grubbs pleaded guilty to five counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor.

Media outlets report that Bedford County Circuit Court Judge James Updike sentenced Grubbs on Friday. Grubbs to two years on each count, with all but 13 months suspended. Grubbs also received credit for 13 months he's been in jail since his arrest.

Updike ordered Grubbs to register as a sex offender.

Grubbs was a school resource officer at Liberty High School when he was arrested in October 2011. He posted bail and fled the area with the girl. He was captured in Kentucky in November 2011.
