HENRICO, Va – A fully involved garage fire damages two homes and destroys two cars. Henrico fire responded to a report of a car on fire inside a detached garage in the 1700 block of Careybrook Dr. When fire units arrived they found a two car garage fully involved in fire.
The two homes located just feet away were damaged by the intense heat. Fire crews quickly knocked the fire down and brought the blaze under control in about 17 minutes. A live power line caused firefighter some concern until Dominion Virginia Power arrived and made the line safe.
The cause of the fire was determined to be a car left running inside the garage. The occupant stated she went out to start the car to keep the battery charged and forgot and left it running. The power was cut to the home address and will keep the occupants from staying in the home for the night. The second house sustained only cosmetic damage.
