PETERSBURG, VA - The Appomattox River Water Authority recommends based on Lake Chesdin Reservoir filling on December 27, 2012, that member communities lift mandatory water restrictions instituted on August 8, 2012. We request that the public continue to conserve water in a prudent manner based on the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality's (VA-DEQ) current drought status for the Appomattox River Watershed Basin. The VA-DEQ is presently showing drought indicators as follows for the Appomattox River Watershed Basin:

Ground Water: Watch
Reservoir Levels: Watch
According to the US Department of Commerce's National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration report released on January 3, 2013, drought conditions are expected to be ongoing within the watershed for the next three months with some improvements expected.
