Richmond, VA—Dominion Virginia Power
business customers should be alert to a scam, wherein an unknown caller demands
money and threatens to cut off power.
Richmond
Police detectives are investigating at least two different incidents on January
4 and January 7. In each instance, a man pretending to be a Dominion Virginia
Power employee called businesses in the city of Richmond, and told them their account hasn't been
paid or that there are additional fees.
The
caller then threatened to cut off the power to the business if a certain amount
wasn't paid quickly.
Police
say anyone who receives such a call should immediately contact Dominion
Virginia Power via a land line phone, using one of the official number provided
by the agency.
If
you've been a victim of such a crime or anyone with information about this scam
is asked to contact Fourth Precinct
Detective Todd Perseghin at (804) 646-3103 or Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
