RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Nearly four dozen people have been named to a Virginia panel reviewing school policies and procedures, as well as funding and resource challenges, to ensure the safety of students and educators.
Gov. Bob McDonnell named the members of the Task Force of School and Campus Safety on Wednesday. It includes state and local leaders, lawmakers, public safety experts, parents and students.
McDonnell created the panel following the Connecticut elementary school shooting. It will provide initial safety-related legislative and budget proposals by the end of January and submit a final report by the end of June.
The 45-member panel will be co-chaired by Secretary of Public Safety Marla Decker, Secretary of Education Laura Fornash, Secretary of Health and Human Resources Bill Hazel.
Its first meeting is set for Jan. 14.
