Richmond, VA—Just a week into the Virginia's General Assembly session, two Virginia lawmakers are introducing gun control laws, which they believe are sensible.

Senator Adam Ebbin and Delegate Patrick Hope collaborated on the gun legislation package. If passed, the legislation will:

-Prevent firearms from landing in the hands of anyone with a mental illness.

-Allow only members of the General Assembly and police to carry weapons inside the Capitol building

-Require universal background checks for any firearm purchased, either online or at gun shows.

-Make gun owners responsible to report a missing or stolen gun to police within 24 hours.

Delegate Hope believes the universal background checks proposal will be the hardest to pass; Senator Ebbin feels the proposal of only General Assembly members and police being allowed to carry a guns inside the building will be the toughest.

Both men told 8News they're taking a stand, and are willing to take on gun lobbyists.\
