Robert Gleason Jr. is scheduled to die by electrocution at 9 p.m. at Greensville Correctional Center on Wednesday. Virginia inmates get to choose between electrocution and lethal injection. He will be the first to choose electrocution since 2010.
Former attorneys for Gleason have asked the U.S. Supreme Court to stop the execution. They argue Gleason was not competent to waive his appeals. They claim his mental state has deteriorated further because he's spent more than a year in solitary confinement on death row.
Gleason tells The Associated Press he deserves to die for what he's done, and that if he isn't executed he will kill again.
